Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi announced his resignation from his post, beginning a series of resignations in the Israeli army leadership over what was considered a failure on October 7, 2023, as his resignation will take effect on March 6.

In his resignation letter, Halevi said, “The Israeli army failed in its mission to defend Israel and the state paid a heavy price”.

Halevi clearly declared, “I bear responsibility for the army’s failure on October 7, 2023,” adding, “My responsibility for the terrible failure accompanies me day by day and hour by hour”.

The Israeli Chief of Staff continued, “We suffered heavy losses in lives, and the war left wounds and scars on many of our soldiers and their families,” however, he claimed at the same time that the Israeli army fought a war for many long months and on 7 fronts and achieved accomplishments that changed the face of the Middle East.

Halevi added, “In the remaining time of my command of the army, I’ll complete the investigations and maintain the IDF’s mechanisms in confronting security challenges”.
