Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on Monday launched the process to start pumping Russian gas into China through the “Siberian power” pipes.

Putin considered the project “an important event for the Russian and Chinese peoples and the global energy market”, stressing that “all facilities to start deliveries on the East Road are ready on both sides of Russia and China”.

He pointed out that this project would take relations between the two countries to a “qualitatively new level” and bring the two countries closer to achieving the goal of reaching $ 200 billion in the circulation of goods by 2024.

For his part, the Chinese president said the project bears witness to the “strategic relations and cooperation between Russia and China”.

For his part, Chairman of the Board of “Gazprom Alexey Miller”, that “Siberian gas pipelines filled with gas and stored under pressure”, stressing that the company “is ready to start supplying gas to the People’s Republic of China”.

The Russian gas sale contract between Russia’s Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) was signed in May 2014 for 30 years.

The contract includes supplying China with up to 38 billion cubic meters of gas annually, and is expected to reach this level of supply within five years.

The construction of the first section of the Siberian Power pipeline, with a length of about 2160 km, began in September 2014.

The total length of the pipeline is about 3,000 kilometers, where the gas will be transferred from the gas production centers in Irkutsk and Yakutia to Russian consumers in the Far East and China, after passing through the territory of Irkutsk and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Amur region.
