Shooting near Trump in Palm Beach… FBI Considers It an Assassination Attempt
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced on Sunday that the shooting near Donald Trump’s golf course appears to be an assassination attempt on the Republican candidate for the US presidency.
The FBI added in a statement that it responded to the incident in West Palm Beach County, Florida, and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign said in a statement on Sunday that Trump was fine after a shooting in his vicinity.
Trump campaign communications director Stephen Cheung confirmed in a statement that Trump is in Palm Beach, Florida, and is doing well, without giving further details.
Trump’s son, Jr., said shots were fired at a golf course in West Palm Beach, and that local law enforcement had found a Russian Kalashnikov rifle.
According to media, Trump was playing golf at his club in Palm Beach, when two people exchanged gunfire outside the club, confirming that the former US president wasn’t in danger and was immediately transferred to a safe place.
The New York Post quoted sources as saying that Trump wasn’t in danger, and the shooting occurred in an area known for high crime rates.
In contrast, CNN quoted sources as saying that officials believe that Trump was the target of the shooting near his golf course.
The network added that the authorities found a semi-automatic rifle, a backpack, and a camera that was prepared for filming at the scene.
Local media added that the Secret Service accompanying Trump responded by firing bullets towards the source of the gunfire.
A Secret Service spokesman said Trump was safe, adding that the agency was investigating the incident in Palm Beach, adding that Palm Beach police and the Secret Service would provide a briefing soon with additional details about Trump’s incident.
Martin County Police arrested a suspect in the shooting near the Trump Club, confirming that he was a white man.
Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13.
US Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday condemned political violence after a shooting near Donald Trump, her Republican rival in the November election.
“I’ve been briefed on reports of shots fired near former President Trump and his properties in Florida, and I am glad he is safe,” the Democratic candidate said, adding, “There is no place for violence in America”.
CNN quoted the Martin County Sheriff in Florida as saying that police arrested the suspect sought by Palm Beach County Police in the shooting incident at the former US President’s golf course.
The Palm Beach Police Chief said the suspect was hiding in the bushes on the field, and Trump was 300 to 500 meters away from him.
The police chief added, “We’ve arrested a suspect in the shooting incident and the investigation is ongoing”.
The US media circulated a photo that it said was of the suspect in the shooting incident, in addition to his car that was stopped by the police.
