Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, waved the “Jewish Voices” card after US President Joe Biden’s remarks regarding the suspension of arms shipments to Israel.

Erdan said, speaking to the Israeli Makan radio, that Biden’s dramatic statement is very difficult and disappointing, stressing that any pressure on Israel is interpreted by our enemies as something that gives them hope.

“There are many Jewish Americans who voted for the president and for the Democratic Party, and now they are hesitant,” Erdan said.

The former Israeli vice president of defense production and procurement, who rejected the claim that Israel could achieve its goals without US weapons, responded by Israel Radio.

For its part, Israel’s Channel 12 quoted a senior Israeli official in response to Biden’s threat, saying that Israel has enough means to enter Rafah without US aid, stressing that Biden made a serious moral and political mistake.

The Israel Broadcasting Corporation said that Israel informed the United States that the Rafah crossing will be opened after determining who will manage it, stressing that Israel won’t allow Hamas elements to return to the Rafah crossing, and several alternatives are being studied for that”.

The Israel Today newspaper quoted a senior Israeli official that Israel must occupy the city of Rafah in order to show the world that Israel isn’t an American protectorate”.

Meanwhile, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said Biden’s threat to halt arms supplies was caused by the failed administration of the Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, stressing that Hamas cannot be destroyed without providing someone to replace it the next day.

US President Joe Biden acknowledged on Wednesday that bombs supplied from the United States to Israel had been used to kill civilians in the Gaza Strip, as well as other methods targeting population centers.

Biden said in an interview that the United States won’t supply Israel with weapons if the Israeli army enters Rafah in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army announced, last Tuesday, “full control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing,” stressing that its forces “are conducting extensive combing operations in the area”.

The Israeli army said, in a statement, that it killed 20 militants and found 3 tunnels during the operation to control the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, stressing that the Kerem Shalom crossing is closed and will be reopened when security conditions allow.

The Israeli army also announced, last Monday, attacking Hamas targets east of Palestinian Rafah, after the Israeli War Cabinet unanimously decided to continue the military escalation in Rafah, to pressure Hamas.

Hamas announced last Monday evening that “Ismail Haniyeh, head of the movement’s political bureau, informed the Qatari Prime Minister (Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim al Thani) and the Director of General Intelligence in Egypt (Abbas Kamel), Hamas’ approval of the proposal for a ceasefire agreement”.
