Save the Children: A child killed every hour in Gaza
Save the Children organization reported that the number of children killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7 has exceeded 20,000, at a rate of at least one Palestinian child every hour at the hands of Israeli forces.
Save the Children said that at least one Palestinian child has been killed every hour on average by Israeli forces in Gaza over the course of nearly 23 months of war, with the number of child martyrs now exceeding 20,000.
The international organization specialized on children welfare explained that the latest data issued by the Government Media Office in Gaza showed that at least 20,000 children, approximately 2% of the total number of children in Gaza, had been killed since October 2023.
The international organization pointed out that at least 1,009 children among the martyrs were under the age of one year, and nearly half of them (450) were born and martyred during the war.
According to recent numbers, at least 42,011 children have been injured, while a UN commission reported that at least 21,000 children have suffered permanent disabilities, and thousands more remain missing or are presumed buried under the rubble.
Israeli forces intensified their bombing of the Gaza Strip, destroying 97% of schools and 94% of hospitals.
“This is a shameful statistic,” said Ahmed Alhendawi, Save the Children’s Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe. “It’s a horrific new low in a war marked by a relentless stream of these crimes. Worse still, we saw this coming: systematic attacks on children’s homes, playgrounds, schools, and hospitals, and deliberate starvation, and the world is doing nothing to stop it”.
Save the Children calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and immediate and unrestricted access to life-saving humanitarian aid for children and families throughout Gaza.
