The Saudi Press Agency, stated that an agreement was concluded under the auspices of the Saudi Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, comes in continuation of the two acquisition contracts signed by the Ministry of Defense about two weeks ago with the Turkish Baykar defense company.

The Saudi ministry of defense, aim to raise the readiness of the Saudi armed forces, and strengthening the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia defense and manufacturing capabilities.

The agreement includes the manufacture of electronic systems, mechanical parts, and aircraft structures using composite materials, manufacturing and final flight tests, as well as the provision of training and support services.

The Saudi National Company for Mechanical Systems (NCMS) signed two memorandums of understanding with the Turkish Aselsan company and the Turkish Roketsan company to localize the manufacture of ammunition and optical sensors for the drone system, and manufacture them in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed cooperation agreements in the fields of investment and defense, most notably the kingdom’s purchase of Turkish drones, following official talks held by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Jeddah last month.

Earlier, Saudi officials stated that the Kingdom needed to strengthen its capabilities in the field of drones, especially to control the borders with Yemen, where the Kingdom has been leading a military coalition against the Houthi rebels for more than eight years.

The TB2 model of the Turkish Bayraktar drone, produced by Baykar Defense Company, proved its effectiveness in multiple locations in recent years.

It’s worth mentioning that Baykar Defense Company, is owned by the Turkish president’s son-in-law of Selçuk Bayraktar.
