The Deputy Speaker of the Russian Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev said on Monday, that the United States may escalate the Ukrainian conflict in 2024, if one of the parties needs additional votes regarding the ongoing presidential election race in the country.
According to Kosachev, “This is a very dangerous situation, because the Americans aren’t afraid to use foreign policy in their partisan competition… If a party feels the need to escalate the situation in Ukraine in order to gain more votes in the elections, it will do so… So the US presidential elections, which will conclude in 2024, will be a terrible event, if not catastrophic.
According to Kosachev, further escalation of the military conflict through the use of heavier types of weapons may increase the possibility of using nuclear weapons.
“Fortunately, we haven’t yet reached this threshold; however, there are risks to accessing it”.
The Russian senator said Washington persuaded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to abandon any negotiations with Russia last year, and had no plans to return to the negotiating track.
