Several powerful explosions rang out in the city of Kyiv on Saturday, while authorities warned that the Ukrainian capital was under missile attack.

Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, wrote on Telegram: “Explosions in the capital… The Air Defense Forces are in operation. Stick to the shelters”.

The Ukrainian Air Force also declared a state of air alert at dawn on Saturday.

In another context, the US President Donald Trump warned on Friday that his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he will meet on Sunday to discuss new peace proposals, that nothing is guaranteed until he gives his approval.

“The Ukrainian president doesn’t have anything until I agree to him,” Trump told Politico, adding, “So we’ll see what he has”.

“I think things are going to go well with him, and they’re going to be okay with Putin,” the US president added, adding that he would speak soon to the Russian president.

Zelensky will visit Florida on Sunday to meet Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence, where he is vacationing.

The Ukrainian president is seeking to discuss the issue of the pending territories as part of negotiations to end the war with Russia.

The meeting comes days after Zelensky unveiled a revised US plan to end the conflict, which was updated following talks with Ukraine.

Moscow has criticized the new version of the plan, accusing Kyiv of trying to torpedo the negotiations.

The revised plan includes freezing the current frontline without providing an immediate solution to Russia’s demands, which include control of territory that makes up more than 19% of Ukraine.
