Russia: Putin inaugurates two new nuclear submarines
Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged on Monday to strengthen Russia’s military-naval power, while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of two nuclear submarines in the far north of the country.
Putin participated in the flag-raising ceremony held in Severodvinsk on the White Sea, where the Krasnoyarsk and Emperor Alexander III submarines were built over the past six years.
“With ships like these and weapons like these, Russia will feel safe,” Putin said in a speech to the sailors.
Putin inspected one of the two submarines in the frozen Arctic waters.
Last week, Putin said that he would run in the elections next year to win a new presidential term, nearly two years after he launched the current attack in Ukraine.
The Russian President said that the two submarines will enhance the combat readiness of the Russian Navy and our naval force in the Arctic, the Middle East, the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea.
In addition to these two ships that will enter the Pacific Fleet, Russia is building eight nuclear submarines.
As the fighting in Ukraine approaches its second year, Russia has transformed its economy to focus more on military production.
Last October, Russian lawmakers approved a record increase in military spending, nearly a third of total spending for 2024.
The Russian president pledged to continue working to increase Russia’s naval-military power.
