Russia is fortifying its armed forces with the Covid-19 vaccine, as infections rise and India will produce more than one hundred million doses of the Russian vaccine

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu said on Friday, that the country intends to vaccinate more than 400,000 soldiers against Covid-19, while the authorities reported a record level of daily infections with the Coronavirus, which reached 27,543 new infections.

Russia, which is working to develop several anti-Coronavirus vaccines, has seen a rise in infections since September, but the authorities have resisted imposing general isolation measures and resorted instead to measures in certain regions.

The Indian pharmaceutical company, Heitero, will produce more than 100 million doses of the Russian (Sputnik V) vaccine against Covid-19 annually under an agreement with the Russian sovereign wealth fund, which was unveiled on Friday.

The Victor Institute in Siberia, which is developing a second Russian vaccine, the second Russian vaccine, said that the immunity that the vaccine will provide will not last for life and that additional doses will be necessary within six to ten months of the first two doses, once every three years.

Alexander Ryzhikov, head of the institute’s department of zoonoses and influenza, said Friday that the institute is ready to produce up to five million doses of the vaccine annually.

News agencies quoted the defense minister as saying that 2,500 members of the armed forces had already been vaccinated against Covid-19, and the total number is expected to reach 80,000 by the end of the year.

Anastasia Rakova, deputy mayor of Moscow, said that between 1,500 and 1,700 patients in Moscow are hospitalized every day because of the virus.

Russia has recorded two million 215,533 cases so far, and it is ranked fourth in the world in terms of the number of injuries after the United States, India and Brazil.

It has also seen 38,558 virus-related deaths since the pandemic began.
