Russia intends to mobilize its soldiers on the border with Finland

Chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, stated in his briefing regarding Russia’s upcoming military goals, noting that the West is working to increase its military presence in the High Arctic and develop military infrastructure near Russia’s borders.
These statements come after Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced their intention to re-establish the “Leningrad Military District” to cover Russia’s northwestern border region, which borders the Finnish border, a border that was closed 13 years ago.
Tensions between the two countries increased after Finland joined NATO and signed a defense agreement with the United States, which Moscow considered a direct threat.
Russia also announced its intention to revive a military zone near Finland, a country that shares a 1,340-kilometee border with Russia.
It’s noteworthy that the Ukraine war greatly affected relations between Moscow and the West, and Russia and the Western countries entered into a state of increasing tension with its historical competitor, the Russian Federation, behind the Soviet Union.
The Russian president recent statements, which he described as the beginning of new disputes between Moscow and the West after a period of friendly relations.
Vladimir Putin attributed this to their intention to establish the Leningrad Military District and concentrate military units there.
