Russia announces the arrest of the Ukrainian consul “in flagrante delicto”
Russian security services announced the arrest of the Ukrainian consul in Saint Petersburg, Alexander Susunyuk, on Saturday, claiming he obtained classified information from a database of Russian law enforcement and security agencies.
In statement, Russian security said that Susunyuk was arrested in flagrante delicto on Friday, indicating that this act is not in line with the consular missions of diplomatic missions and is considered “hostile” to Russia.
The Russian security services indicated that the necessary measures would be taken against the Ukrainian consul in accordance with international law.
This arrest comes in light of the tension in relations between Moscow and Kiev in the past weeks, after Russian military movements on the borders and in the Crimea region.
