Report: Senior Israeli officers intend to resign

Israeli media reported that a number of senior Israeli army officers, including four field unit commanders, informed those close to them of their intention to resign.

According to a report by the Israeli i24news channel, these possible resignations come after the resignation of the head of the Israeli Military Intelligence Service, Aharon Haliva, who became the first member of the army’s General Command to resign against the backdrop of the failures of the October 7 events.

Reports indicate that the Gaza Division Commander, Lt. Col. Avi Rosenfeld, may be close to resigning, given that he bears responsibility for the bloody attack that occurred in the Western Negev region during his shift.

Rosenfeld is expected to wait until he completes his post-war mission, which includes establishing a buffer zone between the towns surrounding Gaza and deep inside Gaza.

Among the other officers expected to resign is General Yaron Finkelman, commander of the Israeli army’s southern region.

Winkelmann announced that he would assume responsibility with the outbreak of the war, and it’s possible that he will submit his resignation after completing some of the remaining major tasks in the Gaza Strip, before the army moves to the targeted operations phase.

The report added that the timing of these resignations may be affected by the Israeli army’s internal investigations into the war, which have already begun.

The report warned that resignations may negatively affect these investigations, and may lead to leaks if the resignations are confirmed.

On the other hand, Israeli forces have continued to bomb the Gaza Strip for about 7 months, which led to the destruction of entire neighborhoods and the displacement of about 1.7 million out of a total of 2.4 million residents of Gaza, according to United Nations reports.
