Qatar announced Tuesday evening that it was suspending its role as mediator in ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, following an Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas headquarters in the capital, Doha.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a criminal assault that violates international laws and norms and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of citizens and residents in Qatar.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the relevant security authorities immediately responded to the aftermath of the incident and took all necessary measures to ensure safety.

The statement emphasized that Qatar tolerate any attack that threatens its security and sovereignty, noting that investigations are ongoing and that further details will be announced soon.

In contrast, the Israeli military confirmed carrying out a precision airstrike targeting Hamas’s leadership in Doha, dubbed “Day of Reckoning,” targeting the movement’s leaders who bear responsibility for previous attacks on Israel, particularly the October 7 massacre.

The Israeli army explained that it had taken steps to avoid civilian casualties, using precision munitions and advanced intelligence, and affirmed that its campaign to target Hamas leaders responsible for operations against Israel would continue.

For its part, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office affirmed that the operation was independent and that Israel bears full responsibility for it.

The Israeli media reported that ten Israeli fighter jets participated in the operation, firing 12 missiles at Hamas leadership sites in Doha.

The operation was coordinated with other countries and was 1,800 kilometers from Israeli territory.
