Putin wins at the Russian presidential elections after receiving 87.33% of the votes
In Sunday’s Russian presidential election, President Vladimir Putin won a landslide victory, cementing his position in power.
This victory reflects, according to Putin, the correctness of the policy followed by Moscow in confronting the West and sending forces to Ukraine.
The win means Putin, (71) will easily secure a new six-year presidential term, taking him over Joseph Stalin and becoming Russia’s longest-serving leader in modern history.
Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer, this victory is a signal to the West that it must be careful, whether in peace or war, because Russia will remain bold for a long time to come.
Election results showed that Putin received 87.33% of the votes after 99.5% of them were counted, and Nikolai Kharitonov came in second place with 4.31%, Vladislav Davankov with 3.79%, and Leonid Slutsky with 3.19%.
Putin stressed that the source of power in Russia is its people, stressing that the will of the peoples of the Russian Federation was formed through the vote of every citizen in Russia.
He said, “This is very important, as the power in our country comes from the Russian people”.
The United States, Germany and Britain, in addition to other countries, criticized the elections as neither free nor fair, citing the imprisonment of political opponents and censorship.
In his victory speech in Moscow, Putin announced that he would strengthen the strength of the Russian army and pay special attention to military issues, especially in Ukraine, and warned the West against trying to threaten Russia.
He noted that despite the challenges faced, the unification of Russians would make any attempt to threaten failure.
Despite his emphasis on the democracy of Russian elections, Putin also stressed that the protests called for by former political activist Alexei Navalny didn’t affect the election results.
These elections come in light of tensions between Russia and Ukraine, and escalating tensions with the West, making Russian policy in Ukraine the focus of great international attention.
