On his working visit to Austria, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Europe to help the displaced from Syria and neighboring countries return home and live normally.

«If Europe wants to reduce the flow of refugees, including from Syria and neighboring countries, people should be helped to return home in order to help them live normally», Putin told a news conference after talks with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.

«We discussed the crisis in Syria and we confirm Austria’s readiness to participate in humanitarian work to support the Syrian people», Putin said.

Putin, who arrived in Vienna on a working visit earlier in the day, held talks with his Austrian counterpart Alexander van der Bellen on a number of international and regional issues, including the crisis in Syria, as well as the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Russia and Austria celebrated the 50th anniversary of the start of Russian gas supplies to Austria in 1968, which reached more than 200 billion cubic meters during that period.
