Putin awards Congolese president a medal on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the relations of the two countries
Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded Congo-Brazzaville President Denis Sassou Nguesso the “Medal of Honor for his contribution to the development and strengthening of relations between the two countries”, which both sides are celebrating 60 years of existence.
Putin said during a meeting with Sassou Nguesso, whose visit to Russia will continue until Saturday, that Russia and Congo managed to build good relations, adding that the Congolese president personally made a lot to develop them, and also participated in two Russian-African summits, and also visited Russia in the Soviet era.
Putin highlighted that Russian-Congolese relations have developed significantly in recent times, as have trade and economic relations, and that his Congolese counterpart have good relations on a personal level.
For his part, the Congolese president said that the two countries have maintained friendly and solidarity relations for 60 years, expressing his hope for close cooperation with Russia over the next 60 years.
Sassou Nguesso added that Russia maintains relations with other African countries, thanks to which the recovery period there began, and the African peoples learned the power of resistance in the struggle against colonialism for their liberation.
Nguesso said he came to Russia to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries, to explore opportunities to reach a new level and lay the foundation for strong cooperation.
