The head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, described Tuesday the toll of Ukrainian losses announced by Russia, after confirming that it had repelled two major attacks in two days, as fantasies.
“It’s just a fantasy,” Prigozhin said on Telegram.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that it had repulsed two large-scale Ukrainian attacks, Sunday and Monday, in the south of the Donbas region, killing more than 1,500 Ukrainian soldiers and destroying 28 tanks.
For its part, the Ukrainian government, which announced gains near Bakhmut, didn’t provide any results.
Prigozhin said sarcastically about the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, Igor Konachenkov, that killing 1,500 soldiers in one day is a massacre… If we add up all the numbers that Konachenkov provided, we will have destroyed the entire planet five times over.
Prigozhin usually makes harsh statements criticizing the Russian General Staff, which he accuses of not providing enough ammunition for Wagner fighters who were on the front lines in the battles around Bakhmut.
