US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held Russia responsible for the recent cyber-attacks that targeted the US government.
“We can say very clearly that the Russians have engaged in this activity,” Pompeo said in a radio interview on Friday night, adding that he could not comment on the details of the cyber-attacks because they are still under investigation and some details will remain classified.
Russia has rejected all allegations of its involvement in this.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security, confirmed this week that US government agencies and key infrastructure entities have been subjected to cyberattacks “since at least March”.
US media suggested that Russian Internet pirates targeted the Treasury and Commerce Ministries and other government agencies.
On Friday, the Energy Department said it was affected by the cyber-attacks.
