Niger: ISIS announces killing 40 soldiers including a special forces commander
The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for an attack against the Nigerien army last Sunday in the town of Ikenouane in the Tilia region in the southwest of the country, killing at least 40 soldiers.
According to ISIS media outlet “Amaq news agency” that during the violent attack on two nearby Special Forces and National Guard positions, the commander of the Special Forces and another soldier were captured before being killed.
According to Amaq news agency, the clashes between the organization’s militants and the Nigerian forces lasted about half an hour and ended with storming and seizing control of the two sites.
The soldiers’ barracks were also burned, along with seven vehicles, and a number of other vehicles and quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized.
This is the second time ISIS has attacked Ikniwan, located in the Tahoua region, as last September, it attacked the same town, killing approximately 38 soldiers.
