Musk announces the establishment of a political party
In a surprising move reflecting rising political tensions in the United States, Elon Musk announced the establishment of a new political party, called the “America Party,” following a public dispute with US President Donald Trump over spending and tax policies.
Musk posted a clear message to his followers on Saturday on his X account: “You want a new political party… and you will get it!”
Musk added, “We don’t live in a true democracy, but rather in a one-party system where money is wasted and loyalties are bough… The America party was born today to restore freedom to the people”.
Musk had hinted since late June at his desire to enter politics through a new party, following his sharp criticism of the government spending and tax bill supported by the Trump administration.
This bill aims to reduce the deficit and reduce the public debt, but it has sparked widespread controversy, with some experts believing it could worsen the financial situation in the long term.
Trump, in turn, was quick to respond, downplaying Musk’s position, mocking his criticism, and even suggesting that Musk might have to return to South Africa if he didn’t receive financial support from the US government.
The launch of “America Party” marks a major shift in the American political landscape, as one of the world’s most prominent and influential businessmen officially enters the political arena.
