Medvedev: Europe won’t get the quantities of gas it wants if it twists Russia’s arm
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said that Russia is ready to supply gas to Europe in the amount stipulated in the contracts, but if the European Union twists its arm and refuses to supply the maintained turbines of the “Nord Stream” pipeline or the launch of the “Nord Stream 2” pipeline, They will not get the quantities they want.
Medvedev told the French channel LCI: “We have never refused to supply gas to Europe.
We built the “Nord Stream 2” pipeline, and we fulfilled all our obligations, but they were the ones who refused and said that they didn’t need Russian gas, and that they could not pay in euros and dollars because they stopped the correspondence system with our banks.
It was then that we decided that the only possibility for us was to use the ruble as a means of payment.
That is, these are the results of the sanctions war launched by the West.
Yes, we are now ready to supply gas in the contracted quantities.
“If they twist our arm, if they block the payment, if they refuse to supply the turbines that have been repaired or the launch of “Nord Stream 2”, it is likely that the volume of gas supply won’t be in the quantities that Western countries want”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced earlier that if the turbines of the “Nord Stream 1” pipeline weren’t returned to Russia, only 30 million cubic meters per day could be pumped through the route instead of 60 million cubic meters, and indicated that at the end of this month, another “turbine” will be sent for maintenance.
The Russian gas giant, “Gazprom”, announced earlier that the sanctions imposed by Canada, Britain and the European Union, as well as the inconsistency of the current situation with the commitments of Siemens, make the supply of turbines for the “Nord Stream” gas pipeline impossible.
On July 25, the Russian company, Gazprom, announced that it would stop operating another Siemens turbine at the Portovaya pressure station, an important facility for the project, noting that the low volume of gas pumping through the “Nord Stream 1” gas pipeline.
“It will be 33 million cubic meters per day; this is due to the need to send the turbine for scheduled repairs in accordance with the instructions of the Russian Technical Supervisory Authority “Rostekhnadzor”, in addition to taking into account the technical condition of the engine and the need to adhere to safety precautions.
