Malian authorities announce closing the country’s airspace to Algerian civilian and military aviation
The Malian government announced the closure of the country’s airspace to all civil and military aircraft heading to or from Algeria, starting Monday, April 7, 2025, until further notice.
The Malian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced in a statement, “in light of the Algerian regime’s insistence on sponsoring international terrorism and reciprocal measures,” it’s informing the national and international public of the decision to close airspace.
The decision came after Algeria announced earlier today the closure of its airspace to all air traffic coming from or to Mali.
Algeria justified its decision by what it described as “repeated violations” of its airspace by Mali.
Prior to this, Algeria recalled its ambassadors to Mali and Niger for consultations and announced the postponement of the assumption of its ambassador to Burkina Faso.
This came after the three countries recalled their ambassadors to Algeria in protest over the downing of a Malian military drone more than a week ago.
