Lloyd Austin: There are no plans to withdraw our forces from Syria
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that Washington has no plans to withdraw its forces from Syria.
Austin said during a press conference that what happened over the past two weeks, referring to the killing 3 US soldiers, and the attacks against the US forces in Syria and Iraq, doesn’t force us to think about withdrawing the US forces from Syria.
He pointed out that the current time represents a dangerous moment in the Middle East region, but Washington will work to avoid the expansion of the scope of the conflict.
Regarding the attack on the US base on the Syrian-Jordanian border, Austin stressed that, “Washington won’t tolerate attacks on its military personnel, and will take all necessary measures to protect its forces and interests in the Middle East”.
He explained that Washington would have a multi-level response to the attack on its forces in Jordan, which resulted in the killing of US soldiers.
It’s worth mentioning that the US administration approved plans to launch a series of strikes, over a period of several days, targeting Iranian facilities and individuals in Syria and Iraq.
