Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Friday that Russia is ready to cut ties with the European Union if the latter imposes sanctions that pose a threat to sensitive sectors of the Russian economy.

Lavrov said during an exclusive interview on the journalist Solovyov Live’s YouTube platform: “We proceed from the fact that we are ready to cut ties in the event that we see again that sanctions are imposed against some important sectors that create risks to our economy, including the most sensitive sectors”.

Lavrov added, “We do not want to isolate ourselves from global life, but we must be prepared for that. If you want peace – prepare for war”.

During the plenary session of the European Parliament to discuss his visit to Moscow, European Union foreign policy commissioner Josep Borrell announced that Russia had shown no interest in restoring relations with the European Union, describing relations with it as having reached a dead end.

European Union countries are critical of the court’s decision on Alexei Navalny, as well as the detention of participants in unauthorized events for his support.
