Kyiv confirms that Russia destroyed a major power station in Kherson before its withdrawal
The Ukrainian national operator, Okrinergo, confirmed Monday that Russia had destroyed a major power station in Kherson before its forces withdrew from the city and the right bank of the Dnieper River last week.
The company’s president, Volodymyr Kudritsky, wrote on Facebook that “the power station that supplied the entire right bank in the Kherson region with electricity, in addition to a large part of the Mykolaiv region, is virtually destroyed,” adding that this matter is one of “the results of the fear of the occupiers before their flight”.
He pointed out that “the largest part of the liberated Kherson region has been without electricity since the sixth of November.
We’re doing everything we can to supply people with electricity as soon as possible”.
He explained that Ukraine “handed over to our international partners a list of equipment needed by the Kherson region,” noting that “a response has been received from Poland and France” so far.
Kherson was the first major Ukrainian city to fall to the Russians after the invasion began in late February.
The forced withdrawal of Russian forces in the face of the Ukrainian counterattack constituted a setback for President Vladimir Putin, who in September had ordered the mobilization of 300,000 reservists.
In recent weeks, the Russian army has launched several missile strikes and suicide marches targeting Ukrainian energy supply infrastructure.
