Kremlin announces first phone call between Putin and Ahmed al Sharaa

The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call on Wednesday with the Syrian President, Ahmed al Sharaa, in the first conversation of its kind between the two leaders.
During the call, Putin stressed Russia’s constant readiness to support Syria in improving its social and economic conditions, pointing to providing necessary humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
The conversation also covered a range of issues related to practical cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, economy, education, and others, with a focus on the results of the recent talks held by the Russian inter-ministerial delegation in Damascus.
The statement issued by the Kremlin added that Putin wished al Sharaa success in facing the challenges facing the new leadership in Syria, stressing the strong historical relations between Russia and Syria, which are based on friendship and fruitful cooperation.
The two sides agreed to continue communication and develop a joint agenda to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The statement described the phone conversation as constructive and rich in content.
It’s worth noting that this conversation is the first between Putin and Sharaa, although the new Syrian president had previously communicated with the Russian president’s special representative to the Middle East and African countries, Mikhail Bogdanov.
Bogdanov visited Damascus last January, accompanied by the Russian President’s special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, where the Russian side confirmed its support for the unity and integrity of Syrian territory and its readiness to contribute to the reconstruction of the country.
