Italian Prime Minister counts on cooperation with Africa for stable supply chains
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said her country’s cooperation with Africa is a key pillar for the stability of supply chains and the achievement of sustainable development.
Speaking on Saturday at the 39th Africa Summit in Addis Ababa, Meloni added that Italy has taken a strategic decision to deepen the partnership with the African Union.
The Italian official considered that Africa has enormous natural resources, fertile land, and a young workforce, which makes it an indispensable economic partner
“The future of the European continent depends fully and directly on the achievement of prosperity and peace in Africa,” she said, stressing “the need to build a new era of cooperation based on mutual respect among all peoples to face common global challenges”.
She highlighted the importance of establishing a lasting and stable partnership between Europe and Africa, based on equality and mutual interests, to ensure that current challenges are transformed into opportunities for shared growth and prosperity.
Meloni chaired an Italian-African summit in Ethiopia on Friday, attended by a number of heads of state, government and ministers, and focused on several issues, including debt.
In late January 2024, Italy announced a plan worth about US$6 billion to support African development, during the first summit between the Italian and African parties.
