Israeli President calls for forming an official commission of inquiry into October 7 failures
Israeli President Isaac Herzog renewed the call to form an official commission of inquiry into the failures of October 7, 2023.
Herzog stressed that his country cannot recover without bringing back its prisoners from the Gaza Strip.
This came during his participation in an event on the occasion of the Jewish Hanukkah holiday in the southern settlement of Hatzerim, accompanied by settlers from the settlement of Be’eri adjacent to the Gaza Strip and families of Israeli prisoners, according to the Israeli Walla website.
Addressing the audience, Herzog said, “I ask you in the name of the State of Israel to forgive me for the terrible catastrophe that occurred on October 7, 2023”.
Israeli political, military and security officials acknowledged that the attack represented a major failure for their country on the political, military and intelligence levels.
In his speech, Herzog stressed that this failure must be investigated in depth by an official commission of inquiry.
He added, “We cannot recover if we don’t return the kidnapped (Israeli prisoners in Gaza) immediately”.
