Israeli minister: Iran isn’t the main enemy of the United States
Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Nachman Shai denied that Iran is the main enemy of the United States, pointing out that Washington has no problem with Iran becoming a nuclear threshold state.
“The main enemy of the United States isn’t Iran, but China and the Biden administration is focusing on it,” Shay, who recently returned from a visit to Washington, said in statements carried by the official Israeli channel, Kan.
He added: “The Iranians are on their way to becoming a nuclear threshold state.
Americans can probably live with this in peace”.
On Saturday, Israeli media said that the Israeli Defense Minister, Benny Gantz, had informed the US administration that he had issued orders to prepare for a military option against Iran.
The Haaretz newspaper quoted an Israeli security source as saying that Gantz had instructed the Israeli army to prepare for a military option against Iran, which the Israeli Defense Minister informed the US administration during his visit to the US capital, Washington last week.
Haaretz newspaper pointed out that Gantz had made it clear to the US administration that there would be no progress in the ongoing Vienna talks on the Iranian nuclear deal, claiming that the Iranian side was “maneuvering or deceiving” the parties involved in the negotiations taking place in the Austrian capital.
The Israeli government has allocated $1.5 billion to prepare the armed forces to carry out a possible strike against Iranian nuclear sites, and political and military leaders’ issue almost daily warnings.
On more than one occasion, senior Israeli officials have stated that Iran only wants to “gain time” from the Vienna talks, the seventh round of which started on the 29th of last month without achieving tangible results, according to what was stated earlier today by German Foreign Minister Annalina Barbuk.
The administration of US President Joe Biden is seeking to return to the 2015 nuclear agreement, which former President Donald Trump withdrew from in 2018, and re-imposed severe sanctions on Tehran.
Tehran insists on the necessity of lifting US sanctions as a precondition for returning to work with the nuclear agreement.
