Israeli media reveals the secret behind recent explosions in Damascus

The Israeli i24NEWS, revealed that the airstrike that targeted the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus a few days ago was directed at the head of Syrian intelligence, Hussein al Salama.
According to reports, Salama was transferred to al Shami Hospital in complete secrecy, where he was placed on a floor isolated from other patients, under tight security measures.
Journalist Atta Farhat, a resident of the Golan Heights, told i24NEWS that the explosion occurred specifically in the Saraya roundabout area, at the end of the Mezzeh al Jabal road.
He noted that media accounts were mixed, with some describing it as “war remnants” or “military training,” while Israeli sources suggested the attack was an assassination attempt against a prominent leader.
According to eyewitnesses, the nature of the explosion was unusual, more like a direct bombardment, suggesting a coordinated attack.
Syrian media also reported explosions and gunfire in the area between al Qasr Road and the western Mezzeh Villas, specifically near al Saraya Roundabout, which led to panic and confusion in the center of the capital.
These events coincided with news of an assassination attempt on Syrian transitional President Ahmed al Sharaa.
Reports indicated that the president had received an urgent warning from a regional source of an imminent threat claimed by ISIS, prompting him to back out of the presidential palace at the last minute. Just minutes later, an explosion occurred, injuring several of his guards, who were transferred to al Shami Hospital amidst extreme secrecy.
Hussein al Salama has served as head of Syria’s General Intelligence Service since May 2025.
He is a senior security figure handling sensitive domestic and regional security issues.
