Israeli media reported on Monday evening that the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas has made significant progress, and a deal may be completed within two weeks at most.

“The deal can be completed within a week or two,” an unnamed senior official was quoted as saying by the Israel Hayom newspaper.

According to Ynet website, according to sources close to a senior Hamas official said, “A major development has occurred in the talks… Hamas has agreed to a gradual cessation of the war and an agreement divided into three stages that includes a gradual withdrawal”.

The sources added that Hamas has handed Egypt a list of the names of the living kidnapped, and is awaiting Israeli agreements regarding the list of Palestinian prisoners it requested, including prisoners with long sentences”.

The Israeli cabinet is scheduled to meet on Thursday afternoon to discuss the ceasefire proposal in Gaza, according to Israeli reports.

The proposed deal is also set to include the release of four prisoners who hold US citizenship, although they don’t meet the conditions of prisoners included in the transitional or preliminary phase.

Egyptian sources familiar with the negotiations indicate that there is optimism about reaching an agreement within the deadline set by US President-elect Donald Trump.

Hamas agreed that the transitional phase of the agreement would last 60 days, during which all the sector’s food, medicine and fuel needs would be brought in.
