Israeli media: A significant progress in Gaza ceasefire negotiations… paving for an agreement to end the war
The Israeli media reported Tuesday evening that indirect negotiations on the Gaza Strip have achieved “significant progress” over the past 24 hours, and that the path is now paved for concluding an agreement.
Since July 6, indirect negotiations have been underway in Qatar between Hamas and Israel in a renewed attempt to reach a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli Channel 13 reported, that the negotiations in Qatari capital, Doha regarding reaching a deal to return the Israeli hostages, witnessed dramatic progress on Tuesday.
According to the Israeli channel who quoted an Israeli official familiar with the negotiations in Doha as saying, “The path to a deal is now paved”.
The Israeli official said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “approved additional flexibility on the issue of the Israeli army’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, which allowed for progress in the talks”.
Channel 13 reported that significant progress has been made over the past 24 hours, adding that this came following the decision by Netanyahu and the Security Cabinet to show more flexibility and move closer to Hamas’s position, particularly regarding the Israeli presence in the Gaza Strip.
The talk is about a temporary Israeli withdrawal for only the first 60 days, with the intention of returning to fighting after the ceasefire ends.
Israeli officials confirmed that their impression from their conversation with Netanyahu is that he is very keen to complete the deal in the coming days, but he doesn’t want to end the war.
