Israeli sources revealed that contacts are being made behind the scenes to advance the course of possible negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, in light of the ongoing war and tension on the border in the wake of the US-Israeli war on Iran.

The Israeli private Channel 12 quoted unnamed Israeli sources as saying that the coming days may witness talks between the two sides.

This comes at a time when Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is seeking to open a direct negotiation channel, but these efforts face several obstacles, most notably the absence of a clear US position, Israel’s refusal to stop its attacks, in addition to reports of Israeli preparations for a large-scale ground operation in southern Lebanon.

According to the commission, the efforts led by Aoun have so far not achieved tangible results, despite the intervention of French President Emmanuel Macron, who is pushing for de-escalation in preparation for the start of a diplomatic track between the two sides.

The official body points out that disagreements within the Lebanese leadership represent one of the most prominent obstacles, as the speaker of parliament, Nabih Berri, conditions the cessation of Israeli attacks and the declaration of a ceasefire before any progress in the negotiation process or the formation of an official negotiating delegation.

On the other hand, Hezbollah elements expressed their rejection of the proposed political initiatives, considering that they won’t lead to any result as long as the military operations continue, according to statements quoted by media outlets as Hezbollah officials.
