Israel: The IDF operation in Rafah is nearing its end and the Israeli forces have begun to build a road along the Philadelphia road to return there in the future
The Israeli army is close to ending its continuous ground offensive on the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah since May 6, Hebrew media reported Thursday.
On the second day of the offensive, the IDF seized the Palestinian side of the Rafah land crossing with Egypt, closing it to the evacuation of wounded people for treatment and the entry of already scarce humanitarian aid.
Israel’s Channel 12 said, “The army continues to advance in the Rafah operation, and it is nearing its end”.
The Israeli offensive on Rafah defied many international warnings and made the situation even more catastrophic, forcing more than a million Palestinians to flee, many of whom were already displaced in the city.
Channel 12 claimed that the 162nd Division of the Israeli army, which is fighting on the ground, is on the verge of defeating Hamas’ Rafah Brigade”.
Despite the passage of nearly nine months since the start of its war on Gaza on October 7, Israel is unable to achieve any of its stated goals, especially the elimination of Hamas’ capabilities and the return of Israeli prisoners from the Gaza Strip.
“Troops have begun constructing a road along the Philadelphia road, making it possible to return there in the future after the army leaves,” channel 12 said.
On May 29, the IDF claimed complete control of the Philadelphia (Salah al Din) border axis, separating the Gaza Strip from Egypt.
“After Rafah operation, the 162nd Division will move to the north to the Lebanese border, and a smaller force will be deployed to operate in the buffer zone along the Philadelphia road,” according to channel 12.
