Israel officially announces the assassination of Hezbollah high field commander
The Israeli army announced, late Tuesday evening, the assassination of what they describe as “most prominent Hezbollah military commander” Fouad Shukr in an attack carried out by an air strike on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut.
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari wrote in a statement on X, “Through a meticulous liquidation operation carried out by the Israeli army, warplanes raided Beirut, eliminating the so-called Fouad Shukr, whose nickname is Sayed Mohsen”.
“The raid was carried out based on intelligence received from the Military Intelligence (AMAN)”, he wrote.
Hagari said that Shukr was the most prominent military commander and strategic affairs officer of Hezbollah.
“Shukr was also considered the right-hand man of Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah and his adviser on planning and war management”, Hagari said.
Hagari claimed that Shukr had been running the fight against Israel since October 8, October, 2023.
He also claimed that Shukr was responsible for the bombing of the Druze town of Majdal Shams a few days earlier.
Last Saturday, 12 Druze were killed and about 40 others were wounded when a rocket hit a football field in the Druze town of Majdal Shams, according to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
Israel’s Channel 13 said on Tuesday that US warships were on their way to the Lebanese coast.
The US move came after the Israeli military carried out an airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut against a commander of Hezbollah.
Axios quoted two senior Israeli officials as saying that the chances of Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr being killed in an attack in Beirut are increasing, while Hezbollah denies assassinating the Shukr.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the commander of Hezbollah, Fouad Shukr, whose is nick named Haj Mohsen, was the target in the attack on the southern suburb of Beirut on Tuesday evening.
Sources close to Hezbollah have pointed that Shukr escaped the assassination strike.
