Israel must ensure that Iran doesn’t restart its nuclear program, six months after it bombed Tehran’s nuclear facilities during a 12-day war, Israel’s Mossad director David Barnea said Tuesday.

Speaking at a ceremony honoring Mossad operative in Jerusalem, Barnea said, “The idea of continuing to develop a nuclear bomb is still beating in their hearts… We’ve a responsibility to ensure that the badly damaged nuclear project is not reactivated again, in close cooperation with the Americans”.

Barnea, whose term expires in June 2026, praised Israel’s surprise opening strikes in the war, saying they revealed the amount of intelligence collected by Israeli agents about Iran.

“The mullahs’ regime woke up, in an instant, to discover that Iran was completely exposed and infiltrating,” he said.

Barnea expressed skepticism about any diplomatic solution with Tehran, adding, “Iran believes that it can deceive the world again and conclude a new bad nuclear deal… We’ve not allowed and won’t allow a bad deal to be achieved”.
