Israel is concern after Egypt obtains long-range air-to-air missiles capable of hitting any targets on the horizon
The Israeli news website “nziv” said that the Egyptian Air Force received “Meteor” air-to-air missiles capable of hitting targets beyond visual range (BVR).
The Israeli website stated that during the era of Egyptian President Sisi, Egypt obtained the Meteor missile, which is part of the armament of combat air fighters, and is considered one of the most advanced air-to-air missiles, with a speed exceeding 4 times the speed of sound, and is capable of hitting targets with great accuracy.
This type of missile is manufactured in the United States, France, Germany, England and Spain, and the price of the missile is one million sterling pounds ($1.267 million).
The Meteor missile is an advanced long-range air-to-air missile manufactured by the European company MBDA, designed to provide exceptional capability to engage air targets in all weather conditions and at long ranges.
Regarding the technical specifications of the super missile, the Israeli website said that its length is about 3.7 meters, its weight is about 190 kg, its range is more than 150 kilometers (the exact distance is secret), its speed exceeds 4 Mach (more than 4900 km/hour), and the diameter of the missile is 178 mm.
Meteor missile is designed to participate in modern air combat, as it has the ability to outperform most competing missiles, such as the American-made AIM-120D missile.
Both the United States and Europe had previously refused to sell such missiles to Egypt in order to preserve Israel’s technological superiority, which Egyptian President Sisi is trying to reduce to zero.
The Israeli website explained that such missiles, which are still reaching the Egyptian Air Force, will change this air superiority, although the Egyptian Air Force doesn’t possess stealth fighters like those possessed by Israel, and therefore the Egyptian Air Force needs an imbalance-disrupting weapon to overcome Israel.
According to Nziv website, the Egyptian military development leads us to the conclusion that these missiles aim to reduce the qualitative gap between the Egyptian Air Force and the Israeli Air Force, which represent countries bound by a peace agreement.
To ensure Israeli superiority, Egypt was previously denied Meteor and AMRAAM missiles beyond the line of sight for French Rafale fighters and is negotiating to acquire Typhoon and F-15 jets.
