The Israeli army announced the deployment of forces from the Hasmoneim brigade, which includes soldiers from the ultra-Orthodox movement, in the security zone in southern Syria, in a move that is the first of its kind for this brigade in that area.

The Israeli army said in a statement: “The brigade’s infantry forces began carrying out field activities after undergoing a series of military exercises, including ‘targeted’ inspections, during which intelligence was gathered, purportedly removing security threats and ensuring the security of civilians in Israel, especially the residents of the Golan”.

The statement added that the brigade will continue to operate in different arenas, while emphasizing the creation of conditions that allow ultra-Conservative soldiers to maintain their religious lifestyle during military service.

This deployment comes days after the Israeli army announced, on December 28, 2024, the end of the tasks of the 55th Reserve Brigade in Syria, after more than 100 days of continuous field activity, indicating the conclusion of its tasks in the area.
