Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Friday claimed to have shot down a US F35 fighter jet in the middle of the country, the second of the same type that Tehran says its forces shot down during the ongoing war.

The IRGC said in a statement that its advanced air defense systems shot down the fighter, without specifying the location of the incident.

He added that the pilot’s fate was still unknown, due to the complete destruction of the fighter.

Iranian media published scenes and photos that they said belonged to the wreckage of the US fighter jet after it was shot down.

This is the second US F35 that Iran says it has shot down since February 28, after announcing the downing of the first fighter jet on March 19.

The IRGC statement said the fighter belonged to a squadron based at Lakenheath Air Base in Britain, where US Air Force forces are also stationed.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also announced on Friday that it had intercepted a cruise missile, carrying a 454-kilogram warhead, which was about to target the city of Zanjan.

The missile was stealthy and long-range and was destroyed by air defense systems in the airspace of Zanjan in northwestern Iran, the statement said.

The US military has used Tomahawk cruise missiles in attacks on Iran, while Israel uses Bullseye cruise missiles launched from warplanes.
