Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Tehran won’t give in to US threats over the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the strait isn’t closed.

This came in a post by the Iranian foreign minister on his account on X, following threats made by US President Donald Trump on Sunday to strike Iran’s energy facilities starting from the largest one unless the Strait of Hormuz is opened within 48 hours.

Araghchi added: “The Strait of Hormuz isn’t closed… The ships are reluctant to cross because the insurance companies are afraid of the war that you (Trump) started, not Iran”.

“No insurance company, not any Iranian, will acquiesce to further threats… Try respect”.

“There is no freedom of navigation without freedom of trade. Respect both, or don’t expect either,” he added.

From his part, Trump in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, said: “If Iran doesn’t fully open the Strait of Hormuz, and without any threat, within 48 hours from now, the United States will strike and destroy its power plants, starting with the largest one”.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry had stated in a statement on X that the Strait of Hormuz isn’t closed and all countries that didn’t participate in the aggression against Iran can pass through.
