Iranian Foreign Minister in Ankara after his visit to Damascus … Information on Iranian mediation between Syria and Turkey

After a visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif to Damascus and his meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, the Iranian minister arrived in the Turkish capital of Ankara, where he held a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The meeting, on Wednesday, in the presidential compound, away from the media, lasted an hour and 10 minutes, according to the Anadolu News Agency.
The meeting was attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Chaochoglu.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday he had conveyed the content of his talks with Syrian President Bashar Al Assad to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Zarif’s statement came at a press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mouloud Chaochoglu at the Turkish Foreign Ministry headquarters in Ankara, where he is officially visiting.
“I have had a lengthy meeting with Bashar Al Assad in Syria and I will present a report on the meeting to Mr. Erdogan”, Zarif said.
Zarif said that his country wants friendly relations between the countries of the region to prevail, noting that Tehran has not interfered in the internal affairs of the countries of the region and only expressed its aspirations.
He said that Iran was continuing consultations with Turkey, Russia and the United Nations on the issue of forming a constitution drafting committee in Syria.
He pointed out that the Syrian government held lengthy talks with the UN Special Envoy to Syria, “Geir Pedersen” on this subject.
He pointed out that a new round of talks will be hosted by the Kazakh capital, “Nur Sultan” in the framework of talks Astana to resolve the Syrian crisis by political means.
He stressed that his country understands the security concerns of Turkey, pointing out that the only way to bring security in Syria, is the control of the Syrian army on the border.
“For us, the security and safety of Turkish citizens is very important, and we cooperate in this regard with Turkey”.
“We hope that stability will continue in Idlib and other parts of Syria, while respecting the territorial integrity of Syria and the demands of its people”, he said.
“First, we’ll continue our efforts for the return of the displaced to their homes and homeland, and then we’ll ensure the exchange of the detained parties and the mutual handover of bodies”, he said.
“Unfortunately, the United States ignores international law, especially by withdrawing from the nuclear agreement, declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and declaring the Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization”, he said.
“Through all these things, the United States has shaken the foundations of international law and acted in a different way”.
“Last year Iran’s economic relations with other countries declined significantly, but US exports to Iran continued”, he said.
This is indicative of the American hypocrisy policy”.
“We’ve no problem with trading with US companies.
We don’t allow the United States to influence our trade relations with other countries”.
He pointed out that the whole world was disturbed by the policy pursued by the United States.
“The policies pursued by the United States are outside the law, and violations of UN Security Council resolutions are committed.
The world must stand up to the United States; otherwise it will shape the relations of the nations of the world with each other in its own interests”.
Zarif congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his counterpart Chaoshoglu and the Justice and Development Party for winning the local elections held at the end of last March, as well as congratulating the Turkish people on the success of the elections.
“We thank the Red Crescent, the Turkish people and the Turkish state for their help and shared our sorrows”, he said.
