Iran nuclear negotiations: Intensive discussions to reach for an imminent agreement
Iran held talks in Türkiye on Friday with Britain, France, and Germany regarding its nuclear program, touching on the ongoing negotiations with the United States, whose President Donald Trump has urged Tehran to quickly make a decision on a US proposal.
The Istanbul meeting came after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned of irreversible consequences if European powers moved to reimpose UN sanctions, which were lifted under the 2015 agreement with major powers.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that Tehran presented, during Friday’s meeting, the course of the nuclear negotiations it has been conducting with the United States since April, mediated by Oman.
“We exchanged views and discussed the latest developments in the indirect talks on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions,” he wrote on X, adding, “We’ll meet again to continue the talks if necessary”ز
Since April 12, Washington and Tehran have held four rounds of talks mediated by Oman, seeking a new agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program to replace an international agreement concluded a decade ago.
For its part, Iran remained fully committed to the agreement for a year after the US withdrawal, before gradually backing away from its core obligations.
Western countries, including the United States, have long accused Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, a claim denied by Tehran, which asserts its right to nuclear technology and that its program is exclusively peaceful.
