Iran confirm the death of Ali Larijani in a raid targeting the capital Tehran
Iranian television announced, “the martyrdom of the Secretary-General of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, in an Israeli-American aggression against Tehran last night”.
Iranian television said, “Larijani had joined the Imam of the Martyrs, one of Iran’s most competent and reputable politicians”.
“He spent his entire honorable life after the Islamic Revolution in the service of Islam and the revolution, and in the end, he was honored to be martyred by the most criminal terrorist in the world,” Iranian television said.
Ali Ardashir Larijani was born on June 3, 1958 in the city of Najaf, Iraq, and belongs to a family originally from the Larijan area of the city of Amol, north of Tehran.
He returned with his family to Iran in 1961, where he completed his academic studies.
He married Farida Motahari, the daughter of prominent religious authority Morteza Motahari, and they had 4 sons, Sara, Fatima, Morteza and Mohammed.
Larijani completed his primary and secondary education in the Iranian city of Qom and then completed his secondary education at the Haqqani School.
He received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Sharif Technical University in 1979, and won the first place in his specialization.
He received his master’s and doctorate degrees in Western philosophy from the University of Tehran, and submitted his doctoral thesis on the German philosopher Immanuel Kant.
Larijani has publish several books, including “The Method of Mathematics in Kant’s Philosophy”, “Metaphysics and Exact Science in Kant’s Philosophy”, and “Witnesses and Authorial Issues in Kant’s Philosophy”.
His books include “The Open Air” and “Modern Government: A Promise with the People,” as well as 15 research articles in a variety of fields.
In August 2025, Larijani assumed charge of the General Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, succeeding Ali Akbar Ahmadan, under a decree issued by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
He was a senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic, Sayyid Ali Khamenei, and the secretary of the National Security Council between 2005 and 2007.
Larijani presided over three consecutive terms from 2008 to 2020, and from 1997 to 2004, he served as the head of the Iranian Radio and Television Corporation; Prior to that, he served as Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance from 1994 to 1997.
After the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Larijani joined the Revolutionary Guards in 1982, where he rose until he became its deputy commander in 1992, and coordinated and supervised the Guards’ media and cultural activities.
Larijani submitted his candidacy papers for the presidency of the republic three times, the last of which was after the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in an accident involving his helicopter in 2024.
