Iran launched missiles at US military bases in Qatar on Monday evening, according to Iranian state media, in a development described by state television as a firm response to recent US strikes against key nuclear sites.

The Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported the “beginning of the Iranian missile launch operation against US bases in Qatar and Iraq,” dubbed “The Glad Tidings of Victory”.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed that the Islamic Republic targeted the US Al Udeid airbase on Monday in an attack it emphasized didn’t pose a threat to Qatar and was in response to Washington’s strikes against its nuclear facilities.

The council stated in a statement that “in response to the aggression and brazen US action against Iran’s nuclear sites and facilities several hours ago, the valiant armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran attacked the US Al Udeid base in Qatar,” adding that the number of missiles used is equivalent to the number of bombs used by the United States in attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities.

It stressed that this action doesn’t pose any threat to the sisterly and friendly state of Qatar.

US and Iranian media reported Monday evening that Iran launched a barrage of missiles toward US military bases in the Gulf region, in a move described as a direct response to the recent US strike targeting nuclear facilities inside Iran.

Qatar, which hosts the largest US military base in the Middle East, announced the suspension of flights on Monday as a precautionary measure due to developments in the region, as this came after Iran vowed to respond to US strikes targeting its nuclear facilities on Sunday.

The US Embassy in Doha urged American citizens to seek shelter after Iran announced it had targeted the Al Udeid US base in Qatar with missiles.

The US Embassy in Qatar published a statement on its website on Monday evening.

The US embassy statement, “As an extreme precaution, we advise US citizens to remain in shelters until otherwise announced”.
