Iran announces the execution of one of Israel’s most prominent spies
Iran announced on Monday that it had executed a man it described as one of Israel’s most prominent spies after convicting him of collaborating with Israel.
The judiciary’s Mizan Online website reported that “one of the most prominent spies working in Iran for the Zionist regime, Bahman Choubi-asl, was executed by hanging this morning”.
A 12-day war broke out between Iran and Israel in June after unprecedented Israeli strikes targeting the Islamic Republic’s military, government, and nuclear sites, as Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel.
Since the end of the conflict, Iranian authorities have pledged to conduct swift trials for individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel.
Since then, it has announced arrests and executions of people accused of working for Mossad.
The Iranian judiciary reported on Monday that Bahman Choubi-asl continued to work closely with Israeli intelligence and had privileged access to vital and sovereign databases in the Islamic Republic, and it didn’t reveal the date of his arrest.
The Israeli strikes in June targeted a number of high-ranking officers, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of people, including civilians.
On August 9, the judiciary announced that it had opened an investigation into 20 individuals arrested on suspicion of links to Israel.
Days earlier, Iranian authorities executed Roozbeh Vadi, who was convicted of passing on information about a nuclear scientist killed during the war.
