In less than two for his inauguration… Trump is angry about the date set for his sentence
US President-elect Donald Trump on Friday denounced a New York judge’s decision to set a sentencing hearing 10 days before his inauguration in his conviction for paying actress Stormy Daniels’ hush money, calling the move an illegal political attack.
“This illegal political attack is nothing more than a farce,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social, in response to Judge Juan Merchan’s decision to hold a hearing on January 10 to sentence Trump.
In his post, Trump launched a fierce attack on the judge, accusing him of being “an extremist biased person who just issued an illegal decision that violates our Constitution and if allowed to go forward will end the presidency as we know it”.
Trump’s statement came shortly after a Manhattan court judge summoned the president-elect to a hearing next Friday, ten days before his inauguration, to pronounce the sentence in the conviction issued against him in the case of buying the silence of a porn actress.
Trump’s sentence will not include prison time, but it will make him the first person convicted of a crime to serve as president of the United States.
In an 18-page ruling, the judge upheld the conviction of Trump by a New York jury, rejecting various requests by the president-elect’s lawyers to overturn the verdict.
On May 30, a New York jury convicted the former president, who was re-elected in November, on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 to keep her from talking about an affair she says they had.
