Ignoring facts on the ground… Zelensky says: Ukrainian forces are steadfast in Kursk
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that the Russian army was trying to retake parts controlled by Ukrainians in Kursk region, however Kiev’s forces were holding their ground.
Ukraine has controlled areas of Russia’s Kursk region since launching a surprise attack early August.
“Regarding the Kursk operation, there were attempts by Russia to push our positions back, but we are holding out,” Zelensky claimed.
For its part, Russia said earlier this week that it had regained control of two villages in the Kursk region, and vowed to continue pushing Ukrainian forces back from its territory.
Ukraine has said its offensive aims to create a buffer zone to stop shelling of its border areas and force Moscow to send troops to fight in eastern Ukraine.
But Zelensky admitted on Saturday that the situation of Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region and the Zaporizhia region is very difficult.
Kiev earlier reported that Russian attacks on Saturday killed two people in the Donetsk region.
