Hezbollah mourns Hashem Safieddine after confirming his death
Hezbollah on Wednesday mourned the head of its executive council, Hashem Safieddine, who was the most prominent candidate to take over as secretary-general, succeeding Hassan Nasrallah, stressing that he was killed, like his predecessor, in an Israeli raid that targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Hezbollah said in a statement, “We mourn… a great leader and a great martyr on the path to Jerusalem, the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, His Eminence Sayyed Hashem Safieddine”.
The statement continued, “Safieddine joined his brother, our most noble and precious martyr, His Eminence the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was his brother, his support, the bearer of his banner, the source of his trust, his reliance in times of hardship and his guarantor in times of difficulties, and he devoted most of his life in the service of Hezbollah, the Islamic Resistance and its society, and over the long years of his honorable life he managed the Executive Council and its various institutions with responsibility and competence”.
