Hamas Reveals Details of Amendments Placed to the Gaza Ceasefire Initiative
Hamas said on Thursday that the amendments requested by the movement to the US ceasefire proposal weren’t significant and included the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday that Hamas had proposed several changes, some of them unimplementable, to the US-backed proposal, but mediators were determined to close the gaps.
The senior Hamas leader said the group was demanding the selection of a list of 100 Palestinians sentenced to long prison terms to be released from Israeli prisons.
Hamas reserved the exclusion of the Israeli paper for one hundred Palestinian prisoners with high sentences, whom it specifies, in addition to restricting the time period for the release of those with high sentences to no more than 15 years.
The bottom line: there are no major amendments that, according to the Hamas leadership, necessitate their objection.
